web development

The website design process involves you as much as us. You can't just drop it in our lap and hope we'll get it right!

Good sites result from the synthesis of our web design skills and technical know-how, and your understanding of your customers' perceptions and requirements. You will also need to successfully accommodate the implications of having an online presence.

At a strategic level, you will need to have a clear idea of how your website fits into your overall business model and your marketing and branding efforts. If it is to be a commercial site, do you have the business processes in place to accommodate online ordering and fulfilment? If is is an information site, how are you going to ensure that the information is kept up-to-date and accurate?

Focussing in a little, perhaps the most important element to get right is the navigational strategy. Get it right, and visitors will happily meander through your site and are likely to return. Get it wrong, and you will lose visitors as quickly as ice-cream vans on a wet Wednesday in Skegness.

custom software

When "out of the box" software just won't do the job, we can create custom solutions that meet your exact requirements. Using Borland Delphi, integrated with Microsoft Access or SQL Server databases, we can provide highly robust, attractive and user-friendly software that scales from single users to networked multi-user applications.

platforms and technologies

To enure maximum compatibility with popular business systems, Eurologic tends to stick to Microsoft-based technologies.

For the technically minded, we generally use either ASP.net or Classic ASP, driven from MySQL or SQL server databases. Sprinkle lightly with a little Javascript, CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and DHTML. Finally, the whole thing is served up on a bed of Microsoft 2000 and 2003 servers running IIS (Internet Information Server).

We can source data from any ODBC compliant database, and have a good deal of experience working with loosely managed data to make it fit for more technically demanding applications such as data-driven websites.

We aim to provide lean, responsive solutions that are easy to use and bandwidth-friendly. We do everything possible to ensure maximum cross-browser compatibility, though we will advise where these impact significantly on costs, especially if your site is directed to a specific target market.

We also normally build sites to comply with all Priority 1 and 2 standards of the W3C accessibility guidelines, or, if this is not achievable, we will tell you why (for example, many of our sites are explicitly designed to allow inexpert users to add their own material; frequently, such material will fall outside the accessibility guidelines).

advice

Because we have been doing this for a number of years, we are often asked about related IT issues. Where we can, we will offer general background advice, often of an informal nature, regarding software systems, networking, payment service solutions, systems integration, search engine optimisation, graphic design, even staff training and recruitment.

And when we get out of our depth, or stray into areas beyond our area of expertise, we will not be afraid to say so. We can also often put you in touch with other service providers in these areas.

lifetime management

We take great pride in our work, and will always work hard to ensure you are completely satisfied with the end result. We do not advertise (unless you can call this website an advert) - every single job over the last 5 years has come to us through word of mouth.

Our contracts always include 12 months maintenance, ensuring the site is bug-free (as far as possible!) and fit for the job. During this period, we will also keep a close eye on how the site is being used. Minor tweaks are usually accommodated at no cost. If it turns out that the site needs significantly revisiting, we will work with you to work out how the benefits of your website can be maximised.

We are also quite open about our work, and you are not "locked in" to us as service providers. For instance, even though databases reside on web servers under our control, we are always mindful that is your data. On request, we will provide up-to-date downloads of this data, in a form readable by your systems.
